Assalamualaikum wr.wb.
Good morning everybody

       Eating and drinking it’s important for humans. Everybody has different habits in eating and drinking. But, not everyone knows their habits  right or wrong. Have you thought about the habit if it’s a wrong habit? And if the habit is wrong, have you ever thought how it comes to our health?
Today, I want to talk about “ False habits of eating and drinking”. The purpose of my presentation this time is we know which is right and false habits. First, I want to start by discuss the habits that we often do while eating and drinking. After that, I will explain what's wrong habits and their impact on our health. And finally, I will give suggestions and conclusion of my presentation.


       Well, I will start with a habit that we often do while eating and drinking. I took some samples of my habits and the people around me for example, drinking tea after a meal, drinking water before meals, eat fruit after a meal of rice, drinking milk mixed with tea and much more. There may be some of my friends who have a habit like that because I think it is a common thing for everyone. However, we do not know right or wrong habit.
To know it is right or wrong, next I will discuss the habits and the consequences on our health.


Drinking tea after a meal
       According to Dr. Soegih Rachmad, a nutritionist from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, tea contains a substance called tannin. Tannin substance inhibits the production of hemoglobin causes a reduction in iron absorption. He said "When we eat a standard menu plus a glass of tea, iron is absorbed only half of it should be." So from now on, avoid drinking tea after a meal. Better to give pause about 2 hours after eating.


Drinking water before meals
       According to Professor Hiromi Shinya MD, an expert on the enzyme which is also professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine USA, as quoted from his essay, 'The Miracle of Enzyme', suggested that drinking water is 1 hour before a meal. Because drinking water just before eating will make the process of absorption of food by the enzyme becomes more difficult. Who drink water takes 30 minutes to flow from the stomach into the intestines. So if you drink just before eating, the water had not been added into the intestines with the food that makes enzymes work harder.


Eat fruit after a meal of rice
       Carbohydrate-rich foods such as rice, will stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. While the fruit is a food that contains fructose so it can also cause elevated levels of insulin. If you eat the rice first, the pancreas will work hard to cultivate rice and protein present in the side dishes and requires long hours. Andang Gunawan (originator of Food Combining Indonesia) said in a seminar, “people who eat fruit after a meal of rice, will only be effective if the fruit is eaten after 2-3 hours because the stomach will digest the rice first”. Thus, if the fruit is eaten after a meal of rice, the fruit already in the stomach will have a long queue to be processed so that it becomes rotten. Due to the nature of the fruit that can not last long.


Drink milk or juice and orange
       If the protein in milk to meet with tartaric acid in the juice, causing compaction, which will affect digestion and absorption of milk in the human body. Add juice and other acidic drinks the milk is not good. Because 80% of protein in milk is casein. When the pH of milk is lower than 4.6, a large number will agglomerate and precipitate the casein in the human body, which is difficult for the digestion and absorption. If severe, may cause indigestion or diarrhea.


Drinking milk mixed with tea
       Tea can improve blood flow and the ability of arteries to relax, but researchers from the Charite Hospital, University of Berlin says that milk can inhibit the protective effect of tea owned by inhibiting the occurrence of heart disease. The researchers also noted that the protein casein found in milk decrease the number of components found in tea are catechins, which have the ability to fight heart disease.
 

       Finally, I’d like to conclude that our habits such as drinking tea after a meal, drinking water before meals, eat fruit after a meal of rice, drink milk or juice and orange, drinking milk mixed with tea, it’s not good habit. So, since we already know, I suggest that we leave those habits because it will be bad for our health and health care is very expensive. Better to prevent than to treat.
